Description
Binder full of historical military envelopes printed in celebration of campaign victories. 24 pages with 3 envelopes per page. 72 total Fluegel covers.
Envelope sizes are 3.75"H x 6.50"W. Fluegel, who was born in Baltimore in 1882, was a long-time Army officer, and rose to become a captain in the Corps of Engineers. In the late 1930's, as his career became less demanding, he began servicing covers designed by others, affixing stamps and arranging for special cancellations. Over the next three years (after 1944), 46 more Fluegel covers were issued, all in a kind of neo-Realist style, marking Allied victories, the death of Roosevelt, the bombing of Hiroshima and Philippine independence. Probably the most popular were the 13 covers marking the liberation of the ''Overrun Countries,'' whose flags appeared on United States stamps in 1943-44.
Artist: Herman F. Fluegel
Issued: 20th c.
