Description
1 medium silver filigree & gemstone OME 17th C. Smugglers button
These buttons are truly hard to find. They were made in the 17th century and designed to smuggle opium in a concealed compartment. The large Garnet cabochon on top actually is attached to a ling threaded post that screws through to the bottom, when unscrewed it removes several of the enameled parts on top to reveal a hole in the cylindrical compartment where they would pour the opium into. We acquired a set of these of which there are now only a couple left so get this one while it lasts if you want a unique button indeed.
Issued: DIVISION 1=PRE 1918 AND DIVISION 3 IS AFTER 1918
Dimensions: SM=Less than 3/4", Medium=3/4" to 1 1/4". Large=1 1/4" and above, extra large=1 3/4" and above
