Description
Triple layer, from the 1959 production of Sleeping Beauty.
Was used to animate the villain Maleficient and her sidekick Diablo for Disney's 16th animated movie, Sleeping Beauty. Both Maleficent and Diablo have their eyes open, and have mischevious looks on their faces. Production and frame details, including sequence and scene number, written at the bottom of these Disney-peg punched authentic cels. This unique piece of animation and Disney history was gifted to the collection by acclaimed Disney animator and eventual executive James U. Tanaka (1917-2008), who worked on several DIsney classics, including Fantasia, during his tenure as an artist there. 12"H x13.5"W, cel size. Is contained within a cardboard masking sleeve. Minor warping and use wear consistent with age and production use; small freckle in center.
