1 Large RARE 18th C. Dieppe carvings under glass button.
This hard to find example is from a set of which two examples are shown on the cover of the book "The Colorful World of Buttons" by Viviane Ertell, is in excellent condition right down to its still vibrant pinkish red foil background. The buttons were hand carved and pierced in Dieppe France of natural material. The example here shows a tree scene with Children. The button is set with a copper rim and tin back typical to 18th century buttons. You saw the button earlier in the auction by the Motiwala Brothers that imitated the rare Dieppe carvings of the 18th century, well now here is the real thing, this is not an imitation.
Issued: DIVISION 1=PRE 1918 AND DIVISION 3 IS AFTER 1918
Dimensions: SM=Less than 3/4", Medium=3/4" to 1 1/4". Large=1 1/4" and above, extra large=1 3/4" and above
