Description
A nice early figure of a couple sitting on a bench with her suitor playing a reed instrument.
With Royal Doulton mark and hand painted HN number. The term swain is used as an elegant term of a male admirer, but originally it denoted a rustic or peasant, specifically a young man or boy who worked as a knight's servant. It comes from the Old Norse word stein, which means "boy, servant, or attendant."
