Trench periscope binoculars and horsehair backpack, tripod and leather case.
A complete set of trench donkey ears binoculars, manufactured by Filotecnica Milan, possibly for the Uruguayan government, based on impressed markings on the instruments and leather cases. Original leather backpack-style carrying case with original horsehair padding and straps. Replacement optics in backpack case. Original tripod and assembly hardware, embossed leather tube-style carry case and straps. Filotecnica, based in Milan, was founded in 1865 to manufacture optical and measuring instruments for topographic and geodetic use. It subsequently became the leading Italian technical-scientific instruments equipment company. (In 1877, the company produced the first Italian sewing machine.)
