A framed hand colored print, LONDON SKETCHES - REGENT CIRCUS, OXFORD STREET, DURING THE SEASON, published in 1875 depicting Regent Circus, Oxford Street, a major road in the West End of London and Europe's busiest shopping street. Motifs of horses, carriages, city architecture and commercial shoppers. Signed by artist, G. Durand (1832-1896). Presented in an antique linen matte with gilt piping and ornate custom wood gilt frame.
A framed engraved hand colored print, LONDON SKETCHES - REGENT CIRCUS, OXFORD STREET, DURING THE SEASON, originally published as a centerfold in the July 17, 1875 issue of The Graphic, depicting Regent Circus, Oxford Street (now known as Oxford Circus), a major road in the City of Westminster in the West End of London and Europes busiest shopping street. It features motifs of horses, carriages, city architecture and commercial shoppers. Signed by the artist, G. Durand, for Godefroy Durand (1832-1896), a draughtsman and wood engraver whose prolific works appeared in The Graphic, a British weekly illustrated newspaper, first published on December 4, 1869 by William Luson. The influence of The Graphic within the art world was immense: its admirers included Vincent van Gogh. Text from the reverse pages in the original newsprint can be seen. Presented in an antique linen matte with gilt piping and ornate custom wood gilt frame.
