Description
The use of the finest wool and silk is evidence that this rug was hand-woven in the Persian town of Isfahan.
Isfahan has been considered the most beautiful town in Persia/Iran. The stroke of a very fine paintbrush would have had a hard time achieving the degree of meticulous precision found in the details of this masterpiece. Woven by a most experienced weaver, it is so fine that it is virtually impossible to come up with a knot count (please see the coin on the back of the rug to show the fineness of detail). The white silk highlights which trace the many birds and flowers appear to glow when looking at them in a particular light and perspective. It appears, from its exceptional condition, that this piece was never walked on. Treasured pieces like this were often kept rolled up in protective wrapping, placed in vaults, and were considered investments by collectors. The beauty of this piece deserves to be displayed on a floor or hung as a piece of art. This rug will also stand up to many, many years of use. It is an exceptional piece of art. It measures 3ft. 5in x 5ft. 9in not counting the macrame and fringes at the ends.
Issued: c. 1950
Dimensions: 5' 9"L x 3' 5"W, not including fringe
Country of Origin: Persia/Iran
