Description
An excerpt from Roger C Hortons' book, Profet and Plunder Under Sail. The painting was commissioned by Keiser Porcelain, one of a series of collector plates.
About the artist: Horton was always drawn to the sea. He sailed the Florida coast and Bahamas in his early teens. At the young age of fifteen he was sailing commercial vessels and worked off shore on foreign flag. As an Army sergeant, he served in Viet Nam, 1968-1969. Discharged in 1970, he returned to the US Merchant Marine. Holding an Unlimited Master of Oceans license, Captain Horton has made voyages to the worlds ports for fifty years, as well as traveling widely when ashore. His passion is being at sea under sail. As a successful Marine artist and illustrator his paintings are most notably of his affection for the sea.
