Original framed commemorative photograph presented to Apollo 14 Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell from the crew of the Prime Recovery Vessel the USS New Orleans commemorating recovery after splashdown. From the personal collection of Apollo 14 Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell.
Apollo 14 launched on February 5, 1971. Acting as commander was Captain Alan B. Shepard Jr, USN, and Commander Edgar D. Mitchell, USN, as lunar module pilot. Apollo 14 mission was the third to land on the moon. During the 9 day mission, 94 pounds of lunar material was collected. Recovery was by helicopter from USS New Orleans. (LPH-11). Sight: 15.5in H x 19.5in L. Framed in silver metal frame: 20in H x 24in L x 0.75in W.
