Description
Original copy of the New York based publication, Saucer News (Vol. 14, No. 1) from Spring of 1967 (39 pages). This magazine is from the personal collection of Apollo 14 Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell.
An original copy of Saucer News is interesting enough, especially when this issue features articles from American journalist, author and paranormal researcher, John A. Keel. Keel authored the best-selling book, The Mothman Prophecies (1975), which was later adapted into a hit movie starring Richard Gere. Of particular note, on page 35 of this issue of Saucer News, there is a brief entry about recent sightings of a moth-man type of creature terrifying witnessesnear Point Pleasant,West Virginia. The entry says that the sightings began the previous November (1966) and are ongoing. In addition to this early Mothman reference, this issue of Saucer News is extra-special in that it comes from the personal collection of Apollo 14 Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell. Mitchell became a vocal advocate for the scientific study of consciousness and paranormal phenomena after experiencing space travel andwalking on the moon. In his post-NASA years, Mitchell advocated for the extraterrestrial hypothesis when it came to the subject of UFOs and asserted that the portions of the government were involved with reverse engineering exotic materialrecoveredfrom UFO crash sites.
