c. 12th century bronze figure of Narasimha, a lion headed avatar of Vishnu, the preserver, one of the principal divinities of Hinduism. Depicted with a calm visage, and modeled traditionally with the demon Hiranyakashipu in his lap, whom he is in the process of slaying. Rich antique patina. Collection of James and Marilyn Alsdorf.
