A smiling, kneeling Ananda. Displaying a rich antique patina.
Extremely well sculpted c. 18th century Burmese bronze figure in the form of one of the Ten Principle Disciples of Buddha, possibly Ananda, which means bliss or joy, and so may account for his joyful facial expression. The young aesthetic is depicted kneeling on a plinth, in a pose of relaxation and contemplation, rather than prayer, and he displays an impish and smiling, almost mischievous, expression deliberately endowed by the artist.
