Description
Offered is a stunning MTH Electric Trains 2-8-8-8-2 Erie Triplex Steam Engine, model #5015, featuring Proto-Sound 2.0. This O-gauge locomotive is a highly detailed and accurate replica of the iconic Erie Railroad Triplex, one of the most powerful steam locomotives ever built. The Erie Triplex, introduced in the early 20th century by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, was an engineering marvel with three sets of driving wheels, allowing for immense hauling capacity. Only three of these engines were built for the Erie Railroad between 1914 and 1916. Designed to haul heavy coal trains over steep grades, the Triplex was notable for its ability to distribute power across multiple axles. However, the design proved complex, and despite their power, Triplex locomotives faced mechanical challenges that limited their long-term service. Today, they remain a symbol of innovation in steam locomotive design. This MTH model meticulously recreates the distinctive look and feel of the Erie Triplex, with a die-cast boiler, tender body, and chassis. Its authentic paint scheme, metal wheels, and axles ensure durability and realism. The model features a constant voltage headlight, die-cast truck sides, and a precision Pittman flywheel-equipped motor. Additional highlights include a synchronized puffing ProtoSmoke system, remote-controlled Proto-Coupler and illuminated cab interior. Decorative metal handrails, a bell, and firebox glow enhance the model's authenticity. Approximate train dimensions: 27"L x 3.50"W x 4.25"H. Box dimensions: 37"L x 9"W x 9"H. This item has its original box.
