Description
An impressive and highly detailed MTH RailKing One Gauge model of the legendary Union Pacific Big Boy 4-8-8-4 Steam Engine No. 4004. This model train, crafted with precision and authenticity, replicates one of the most iconic and powerful locomotives in American railroading history. The model boasts a weather-resistant polycarbonate boiler and tender body with die-cast metal chassis, wheels, and axles. The tender is adorned with simulated coal, showcasing realistic texture and meticulous craftsmanship. Featuring a synchronized puffing ProSmoke system, operating lights, and an ashpan flicker effect, the locomotive brings to life the grandeur of the original Big Boy. The piece includes lighted marker lights, number boards, and Proto-Sound 2.0 technology, enhancing its realism and functionality. The Union Pacific Big Boy locomotives were a series of 25 articulated 4-8-8-4 steam engines built between 1941 and 1944 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO). Engine No. 4004, part of this formidable class, was one of the 25 units designed to haul heavy freight over the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. The Big Boy name was famously chalked on the smokebox of the first engine by an ALCO worker, cementing its legacy. With a total length of 132 feet and a weight of over 1.2 million pounds, the Big Boy locomotives were the largest and most powerful steam engines ever built. Engine No. 4004 was operational until the mid-1950s and now resides on display in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Approximate train dimensions: 53"L. Box dimensions: 38"L x 14.50"W x 10"H.
