This impressive piece is part of MTH Electric Trains' premium One-Gauge series, known for its durability, precision, and realistic features. The locomotive boasts a rugged polycarbonate body, a precision flywheel-equipped DC can motor, and an operating puffing smoke unit that mimics the iconic steam locomotive experience. This model also features intricate boiler and tender detailing, metal handrails, and Proto-Sound 2.0 with FreightYard Proto-Effects, enhancing operational realism. The 4-6-6-4 Challenger steam locomotive was one of the largest and most powerful steam engines ever built. Originally designed by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) in the 1930s, these locomotives were used to haul heavy freight over challenging mountainous terrains. Clinchfield Railroad, operating primarily in the Appalachian region, adopted these engines to conquer the steep grades and ensure efficient transportation of coal and goods. The Challengers became iconic for their brute strength, engineering excellence, and role in powering the U.S. industrial economy. Approximate train dimensions: 48.25"L x 4.25"W x 5.75"H.
