Description
A printed souvenir edition of the "Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies." This important treaty, which established the legal framework for the peaceful use and exploration of outer space, is autographed by Apollo 17 astronaut Gene Cernan, with a personal inscription: "My best to Mr. Seymour Kessler, Gene Cernan 6 July, 1967." The print also features a Kennedy Space Center September 29, 1967 postal cancellation, a First Day of Issue stamp, and a five-cent commemorative postage stamp issued to honor the early space programs. Gene Cernan (1934-2017) was the Commander of Apollo 17, the final mission of NASA's Apollo program and the last manned mission to the Moon. As the last person to leave the lunar surface, Cernan holds the distinction of being the "last man on the Moon." His autograph and personal inscription make this piece particularly special, offering a unique connection to the end of the Apollo lunar exploration era. This rare signed print, combined with its commemorative postal elements, serves as an extraordinary piece of space history, highlighting both the significance of the Outer Space Treaty and Cernan's contributions to humanity's exploration of space. This lot includes a RR Auction Certificate of Authenticity, verifying the signature's authenticity.
