Description
A printed souvenir edition of the "Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies." This important international agreement, commonly referred to as the Outer Space Treaty, lays out the fundamental legal framework for the peaceful exploration and use of outer space. The print is autographed by Apollo 12 astronaut Charles Conrad in black felt tip and Apollo 12 Command Module Pilot Dick Gordon in green felt tip. The treaty, signed in 1967, promotes the non-weaponization of space and aims to ensure that space exploration benefits all of humanity. The print includes two 1969 postal cancellations, a First Day of Issue stamp, and a ten-cent commemorative postage stamp issued to honor the historic Apollo 11 mission and the first moon landing. Charles Conrad (1930-1999) was the Commander of Apollo 12, the sixth manned mission to the Moon. He became the third person to walk on the lunar surface, and his contributions were critical to NASA's early lunar exploration efforts. Dick Gordon (1932-2017) was the Command Module Pilot for Apollo 12, remaining in lunar orbit while Conrad and Alan Bean explored the Moon's surface. Gordon's expertise in spacecraft operations and his role in supporting the lunar surface exploration made him an invaluable part of the Apollo 12 mission. This signed print, along with the commemorative stamps, represents a rare and historically significant piece, honoring both the Outer Space Treaty and the pioneering astronauts of the Apollo 12 mission. This lot includes a RR Auction Certificate of Authenticity, verifying the signature's authenticity.
