A large gilt thru framed engraved color print, THE MARRIAGE CEREMONY IN THE CHAPEL ROYAL, ST JAMES'S, by artist Thomas Walter Wilson (1851-1912), originally published in the Supplement to The Illustrated London News on July 10, 1893, depicting the royal wedding of Prince George, Duke of York (the future King George V), and Princess Mary of Teck, who were married in the Chapel on July 6, 1893. The shy royal couple is depicted in formal dress, while many contemporary British notables, including Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VII), stand witness. It was reported that on the morning of their wedding, George accidentally caught sight of his fiance down a long corridor of Buckingham Palace; he proceeded to make a low and courtly bow, a gesture Princess Mary never forgot. According to an 1893 issue of the Dubuque Daily Herald, the Chapel Royal was beautifully adorned with palms, flowers, and carpeted with crimson for the royal wedding. Artist signed [Thomas] Walter Wilson, R.I. (Royal Institute).
