A gilt framed engraved color print originally published in The Illustrated London News Volume XLIII, on June 13, 1863, depicting The Great International Horserace at Longchamps, Paris, France, illustration from the magazine. The Longchamp Racecourse (French: Hippodrome de Longchamp) in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, France is famous for its interlaced tracks and challenging course. The first race run at Longchamp was held on April 27, 1857, in front of a massive crowd that included the French Emperor Napoleon III. Several prominent artists have painted racing scenes at Longchamp including Edouard Manet in 1867 and Edgar Degas in 1871. The Illustrated London News, first published in 1842, was the world's first illustrated weekly news magazine.
