Description
Historical antique engraved political map predating the Suez Canal built in 1869. Map illustrates military and other man-made structures, roads, and mountains. Includes Governor's Gardens, The Grand Barracks, signal house, and a hospital on the eastern side of the map. Mounted on a brown matte board. This small isthmus on the southern coast was hotly contested between the British and the Spanish during the 16th and 18th centuries. Dated on top right Gent. Magazine March 1762. The Gentleman's Magazine was a monthly magazine founded in London, England, by Edward Cave in January 1731.
